How to do a great audition

Hello, my dears! How are you?

Today I’m willing to sing a little more, as always. Singing is life, isn’t it? I love to sing! And I was watching a lot of nice videos on Youtube. Besides, I was reading Renée Fleming and Deborah Voigt bios. I’ll tell you in my words some tips for a good interpretation on auditions I’ve learned from them.

First of all, the repertoire.

The repertoire might be challenging and it might represent your technical level. Not too easy, not too difficult. It should enable you to express yourself and to show your technical abilities.

The repertory also needs to fit the test aims. So, a careful reading of the test rules is needed.

How to attract the examining board

Autenticity = Good audition

The autenticity makes your music very special for the examining board. The more from yourself they can see in your art, the better. This is the point that makes them look at you and think “Hey! That’s different! I like that!”.

To do a memorable performance, you might read the song/aria lyrics a lot of times, in different ways, so you can make those words and lyrics be your real thoughts. This makes your expression easier.

You can do a simple exercise to practice that.

Say “ok”  five times, using different tones, different emotions.  Play and have fun with that.

When you are singing, the process is the same.

They are not looking for a perfect interpretation. They are looking for passion, talent and potencial.

Creating your confident character for your audition.

I`ve learned that from Renée Fleming book. Wonderful Diva!!!

The same energy you spend studing your repertoire you should spend learning how to be confident to sing and show all your potential. How? You just have to play a confident character, that loves the music he/she makes, and that is respected and respects the examiner board. After all, in the end, they are people who are interested in listening to good music, and you have good music to offer!

Practice that as much as you can. Spend 50% of your time singing, and 50% practicing this character. Interpret a confident, kind and friendly person. Interpret until that person is you!

Focus on your goal

Your goal is probably to be able to express yourself with your music and to show all the beauty of your soul touch your public’s heart. You would love to have their attention and the opportunity to give them some comfort, reflection and happiness, right? And you want to feel fulfilled, being sure you could provide to your public a nice time. That’s what you should think about on hearing day. That is your main goal.

Enjoy the moment! You’re making music!
